VALUABLE ASPECTS

CONTRACT DURATION AND SALARY Interim contract for vacancy, category SD4/SI4, with a maximum duration of 36 months pending approval of the structural position of Head of the Museum Area. The successful candidate will become part of the ICP staff, with a salary between €34,819.56 and €42,368.37 gross per year (including base salary + Head of Area complement + professional career complement depending on experience)

MAIN TASKS

  • Analyze proteomic data from extinct and extant species to reconstruct evolutionary trajectories, dietary habits, and molecular adaptations through deep time.
  • Design and implement computational pipelines for the processing, validation, and interpretation of ancient protein sequences.
  • Contribute to the study of phylogenetic relationships through comparative analysis of proteomic data.
  • Work closely with molecular biologists, mass spectrometry specialists, evolutionary biologists, and computational scientists in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Publish, as first author or co-author, articles in SCI journals.
  • Attend and participate in national and international scientific conferences.
  • Periodically report to the Head of the Research Department and the Head of the Scientific Communication and Outreach Area on publications for which they are (co)author, as well as on research and outreach activities carried out.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
  • Academic background: PhD in paleoproteomics or a related field.
  • High level of English with proficiency in scientific English (oral and written).
  • Paleoproteomics laboratory experience: Demonstrable experience in extraction and preparation of ancient proteins and in working with fossil samples.
  • Data analysis and computational skills: Experience in proteomic data analysis (e.g., MaxQuant, PEAKS) and in developing bioinformatic pipelines through scripting (Python, R, Bash).
  • Evolutionary analysis and interdisciplinary work: Experience in phylogenetic inference from protein data, ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, and demonstrable field experience in paleontological and/or archaeological excavations.
CONTRACT DURATION AND SALARY The contract will start on 16/02/2026. Full-time contract for twelve months, with the possibility of renewal or extension depending on performance and institutional needs.   5. Support for fossil collections and databases, i.e. cataloguing and inventory of fossils excavated and/or studied by ICP research staff or research groups.
  6. Laboratory tasks for the analysis of zircon samples for absolute dating of fossil sites.
  7. Support for ICP research staff in other IT and/or laboratory tasks, such as taking measurements and samples, photography and photo editing, and segmentation of computed tomography data, among others. Creation of 3D models obtained from microtomography.
  8. With the approval of the research group leader or corresponding area head, assistance to external researchers within the framework of strategic collaborations (approved by the Head of the Research Department) or the provision of services to third parties.

TASKS TO BE PERFORMED
  1. Conservation, preparation and reproduction (making replicas) of fossil remains from Permian and Triassic sites in Mallorca recovered during the 2024–2026 project.
  2. Documentation of preparation tasks performed (photographs, materials used, etc.).
  3. Preventive conservation tasks such as the creation of supports and packaging for storage and transport of fossil remains.
  4. Research on materials and methods of paleontological preparation (with authorization), and occasional communication of results in conferences and/or publications.
  5. Participation in preparation and/or conservation courses (co)organized by the ICP.
EVALUATION CRITERIA - Certified experience in fossil preparation, particularly from Permian and Triassic sites.

CONTRACT DURATION AND SALARY The contract will last 2 months under the project “The first mammal ancestors and the oldest bats in the world: Permian and Triassic paleoecosystems of Mallorca”, with a gross annual salary equivalent to €22,000.
