Oriol Monclús

PhD student
Paleoprimatology & Paleoanthropology

(Viladecans, 1997)

Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry (University of Barcelona, 2019). After that, I studied a Master of Science (MSc) in Paleobiology and Fossil Record (Autonomous University of Barcelona, University of Barcelona and Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont, 2020), with a Master's thesis entitled Exploring the phylogenetic and functional signals of the navicular bone in primates: Anchomomys frontanyensis as a case study, in which I applied 3D geometric morphometrics techniques and multivariate statistical analysis to assess the locomotion of the middle Eocene adapiform Anchomomys frontanyensis.

Currently, I am a PhD student at the Paleoprimatology and Paleoanthropology research group. My research project aims to study the functional morphology of primate tarsal bones to understand the locomotory repertoire of extinct primates, using both descriptive and quantitative techniques, such as 3D geometric morphometrics and phylogenetic comparative methods. My PhD research is directed by David M. Alba and Judit Marigó.

My project is funded by the FI grant from the Departament d'Empresa i Coneixement (Generalitat de Catalunya), the Agencia de Gestió d'Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR) and Secretaria d'Universitats i Recerca (Generalitat de Catalunya), co-founded by the Fons Social Europeu (FSE) (ref. 2021 FI_B 00524).
