Andrea Villa

Postdoctoral researcher
Paleobiodiversity & Phylogeny

I am a palaeoherpetologist working mainly with amphibian and reptile assemblages from Europe, Africa, and Asia. After graduating in Natural Sciences at the University of Milan, I obtained a PhD in Earth Sciences at the University of Torino in 2018, with a thesis on the comparative osteology and palaeodiversity of lizards in Europe during Neogene and Quaternary. Following the end of my PhD, I worked for the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, in charge of the study of fossil lizards from the renowned Geiseltal collection. Subsequently, I was Humboldt Research Fellow at the Bayerische Staatssammlung für Paläontologie und Geologie, in Munich, and I am currently holding a Juan de la Cierva-formación post-doc position here at the ICP, to study amphibians and reptiles from the Vallès-Penedès Basin.

My main research interest are fossil amphibians and reptiles from the Eurasiatic and African regions, especially lepidosaurs, as well as the comparative osteology of these animals, both extant and extinct. During my academic career, I studied faunas spanning from the Mesozoic to the Holocene in age, and carried out field work in Europe and Africa.
