GroenewaldResearch published in the journal PLOS ONE has shed light on the locomotion of large-bodied rhinesuchid amphibians. This research shows that these animals, which were the dominant predators in freshwater ecosystems more than 250 million years ago, swam in a manner similar to extant crocodiles. The investigation has focused on fossil traces from South Africa.
