Description:
Current paleontology provides a new view of the biological changes along the geological time. The resulting science, paleobiology, shows the evolution of life in a fascinating way, never seen by other disciplines. This new research includes a number of topics, namely taphonomy, paleoecology, paleoceanography, biostratigraphy, molecular biology, phylogeny, macroevolution, and functional morphology, among others.
This program combines the theory, research and practical application to provide the experience you need for a professional performance.
With this master’s degree, you will learn about current debates in evolutionary biology, systematics and paleobiology, how to solve issues related to fossil record and how to apply the acquired knowledge to the interaction with the industry (e.g. patrimonial effects of public works, cultural tourism or geological exploration). You will be able to develop a research project and improve your communication and dissemination skills.
And, overall, this master’s degree is a window to an amazing research and professional field.
Organization:
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the University of Barcelona (UB) organize this course in collaboration with the Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont (ICP).

- Module 2. Methods and Techniques in Paleobiology (9 ECTS).
- Module 3. Marine Paleobiology (15 ECTS). OPTATIVE MODULE
- Module 4. Terrestrial Paleobiology (15 ECTS). OPTATIVE MODULE
- Module 5. Research in Paleontology & Geotourism (12 ECTS).
- Module 6. Individual master research project -TFM- (15 ECTS).

Introductory course on conservation of natural history collections. June 26-30.
This course is organized by the Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont (ICP) and the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona (MCNB), in collaboration with the Escola Superior de Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals de Catalunya (ESRCBCC).
The MCNB and the ICP preserve valuable collections of natural sciences (fossils exclusively in the case of ICP and minerals, rocks, herbarium sheets, seeds, zoological specimens and fossils in the case of MCNB). Preserving this heritage is a joint effort between natural sciences field and heritage conservation professionals.
During the course, the most relevant aspects of the conservation of natural science collections will be discussed, including preparation, environmental conditions, pest prevention and packaging types, among others.

The course is aimed at students of 3rd and 4th year of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, graduates in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property and professionals in the field of natural history conservation. The course is equivalent to 1 ECTS of the ESCRBCC.

The course will be held from 26 to 30 June from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sessions will take place in: Museu Blau (Barcelona), ICP Museum (Sabadell) and ICTA-ICP Building (UAB Campus).

Curs d'Introducció a la conservació de les col·leccions d'història natural. 26-30 de juny.
Aquest curs està organitzat per l’Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont (ICP) i el Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona (MCNB), amb la col·laboració de l’Escola Superior de Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals de Catalunya (ESRCBCC).
El MCNB i l‘ICP conserven unes valuoses col·leccions de ciències naturals (fossils exlusivament en el cas de l'ICP i minerals, roques, plecs d’herbari, llavors, espècimens zoològics i fòssils en el cas del MCNB) que han de perdurar en el temps pel seu alt valor científic i perquè puguin ser estudiades en el futur. Conservar aquest patrimoni és un treball conjunt entre professionals de les ciències naturals i professionals de la conservació del patrimoni.
Durant el curs es tractaran els aspectes més rellevants de la conservació de col·leccions de ciències naturals, des de la preparació, les condicions ambientals, la prevenció de plagues, fins a les tipologies d’embalatges entre d’altres. Les sessions són impartides pels professionals del MCNB i de l’ICP que treballen directament amb el patrimoni.

El curs està adreçat a estudiants de 3r i 4rt curs de Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals, graduats, diplomats o llicenciats en Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals i professionals de l'àmbit de la conservació d'història natural. El curs és equivalent a 1 ECTS de l'ESCRBCC.
Lloc, dates i horari:
El curs se celebrarà del 26 al 30 de juny de 9 a 17h (excepte divendres 30, que serà de 9 a 13h).
Les sessions se celebraran en tres espais diferents: Museu Blau (Barcelona), Museu de l'ICP (Sabadell) i Edifici ICTA-ICP (Campus de la UAB).

Paleontological research, always between biology and geology, is more and more specialized and nourishes techniques and methods, often developed by paleontologists but also inherited or inspired by other sciences. Therefore, the collaboration of the ICP and Transmitting Science SL comes in a training program aimed at PhD students and active paleontologists, as well as researchers and specialists from other disciplines closely related to paleontology.
The courses, a few days long, combine theoretical and practical classes to allow students to use what they have learned in their day to day activity. It is a dynamic program that re-edits the most requested courses while constantly designs new ones.

La recerca en paleontologia, sempre a cavall entre la biologia i la geologia, ha anat especialitzant-se i nodrint-se de noves tècniques i mètodes, sovint desenvolupades per paleontòlegs però també heretades o inspirades en altres ciències. Per això, de la col·laboració de l'ICP i Transmitting Science SL en sorgeix un programa formatiu adreçat a paleontòlegs en formació i en actiu, així com també a investigadors i especialistes d'altres disciplines properes a la paleontologia.
Els cursos, de pocs dies de durada, combinen les classes teòriques i pràctiques amb l'objectiu de permetre a l'estudiant fer servir els coneixements apresos en el seu dia a dia i de manera immediata. És un programa formatiu dinàmic, que re-edita els cursos més demanats alhora que en dissenya constantment de nous.
