Currículum abreviado

Soy paleoantropólogo y paleontólogo de vertebrados centrado en la paleobiología evolutiva. Obtuve el doctorado en Biología en 2005 (Universitat de Barcelona) con una tesis centrada en el origen y la evolución de los grandes simios y humanos, realizada en el Institut de Paleontologia M. Crusafont gracias a una beca de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1999-2002). Tras unos años (2003-2006) trabajando para el sector privado (en servicios paleontológicos), me reincorporé a la academia con un contrato posdoctoral 'Beatriu de Pinós' (2006-2008) a la Unidad de Antropología Biológica de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Posteriormente fui investigador postdoctoral senior visitante (2008–2009) en la Universidad de Florencia (Italia), hasta que obtuve un contrato de investigador 'Ramón y Cajal' en el Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont (ICP) a fines de 2019. Durante ese período fui también investigador visitante (2012–2013) en la Universidad de Torino (Italia) y realicé estancias más cortas en otras instituciones extranjeras (Museo Americano de Historia Natural y Universidad de Stony Brook, Nueva York, EE. UU.). En el ICP lidero mi propio grupo de investigación desde 2012; También fui nombrado director del ICP en 2017 y actualmente coordino los tres grupos de investigación del Área de Investigación del Cenozoico. Mis líneas de investigación actuales incluyen la paleobiología, filogenia y evolución de primates catarrinos y otros vertebrados del Neógeno y el Cuaternario de Europa; y la dinámica de la paleobiodiversidad de vertebrados, con especial énfasis en los recambios faunísticos en relación con cambios paleoambientales.

La visibilidad y liderazgo internacional dentro de mi campo queda atestiguada por mi papel como coeditor en jefe del Journal of Human Evolution (la principal revista paleoantropológica) desde 2017, aunque soy miembro del Consejo Editorial (como editor asociado) desde 2013 También he revisado artículos para las revistas más reconocidas en paleontología, antropología evolutiva y ciencias multidisciplinarias. En 2013 recibí el certificado del Programa I3 (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad) en reconocimiento a una destacada trayectoria de investigación, y en 2016 recibí el premio al mejor artículo científico de la Societat Catalana de Biologia. Estoy acreditado como profesor titular de ciencias en Cataluña y como profesor titular de antropología y paleontología en Italia, y tengo una larga experiencia docente en másteres universitarios en la UAB. También tengo una vasta experiencia en la dirección de campañas de trabajo de campo paleontológico, como las del Abocador de Can Mata (Mioceno medio), Can Llobateres (Mioceno superior) y Vallparadís (Pleistoceno), que permitieron el descubrimiento de muchos restos importantes de primates fósiles (incluyendo el esqueleto del gran simio mioceno Pierolapithecus catalaunicus). En 2015 lideré la publicación en Science de otro nuevo género de hominoideo, Pliobates cataloniae, que tuvo una gran repercusión entre los medios de comunicación. En total, he descrito 36 nuevos taxones, incluidos 6 géneros y 12 (sub)especies de vertebrados fósiles. A lo largo de los años, he participado en muchos proyectos de investigación, siendo el investigador principal de dos proyectos de R+D financiados por el gobierno español, un grupo de investigación consolidado de la Generalitat de Catalunya y otros proyectos financiados por la National Geographic Society y la Generalitat de Catalunya Actualmente participo en un proyecto europeo (ITN) sobre paleoproteómica orientado a recuperar datos moleculares de primates fósiles.

Con respecto a los resultados científicos, mis publicaciones incluyen 122 artículos en revistas SCI (indexados por Journal Citation Reports), lo que resulta en un índice h de 28 (Scopus), 26 (WOS) y 32 (GoogleScholar). 85 (70%) de estos artículos se han publicado en revistas del primer cuartil (Q1) (69 [57%] en el primer decil), entre ellas las revistas multidisciplinarias más reconocidas (Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, Nature Communications), como así como las revistas más prestigiosas en los campos de la antropología (Journal of Human Evolution, Evolutionary Anthropology, American Journal of Physical Anthropology), paleontología (Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, Journal of Systematic Paleontology), biología (Proceedings of the Royal Society B, eLife), zoología (Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, Journal of Mammalian Evolution) y ciencias multidisciplinarias (Quaternary Science Reviews). También he publicado 61 artículos adicionales en otras revistas y actas de congresos, un libro, 9 capítulos de libros y 20 escritos de divulgación científica. Además, soy coautor de 185 contribuciones a 87 reuniones científicas (125 en 63 reuniones internacionales y 60 en 24 ibéricas), lo que lleva a 56 resúmenes publicados en revistas SCI y 103 resúmenes adicionales en otras revistas y actas de congresos. Ha dirigido además cuatro tesis doctorales terminadas y múltiples trabajos de final de máster.
